This is what my laptop finally looks like now that I'm done re-installing it as a native Athlon 64 build of Gentoo. As you can see, I prefer highly minimal layouts with a touch of whimsy thrown in occasionally. (See the location of My Documents and the Trash in relation to the desktop wallpaper.)
